So therefore I'm just going to start. The first area we checked out was called Sibling Revelry, it had sets of siblings design a space together. This first one was done by Glenn and David Dixon. It was inspired by a story called "Sadako and the 1000 Paper Cranes".
This story is of a girl, Sadako Sasaki, who lived in Hiroshima at the time of the atomic bombing by the United States. She developed leukemia from radiation and spent her time in a nursing home creating origami cranes in hopes of making a thousand of them. She was inspired to do so by the Japanese fable that one who created a thousand origami crane would then be granted a wish. Her wish was simply to live. However, she managed to fold only 644 cranes before she became too weak to fold any more, and died shortly after. Her friends and family helped finish her dream by folding the rest of the cranes, which were buried with Sadako.
Here's the view you see when you come around the corner! Look at that ceiling!
A close up of the ceiling! Apparently, these cranes were done by Ryerson students.
The lovely circular sofa - sorry for the crooked photo ;/
The bedroom area - how romantic!I loved this mirror on the back wall!
Okay, the next design sibling area was done by Jason and Lars Dressler, twin brothers who are woodworkers who design and create beautiful pieces. Just take in these lovely wood pieces. That chandelier was absolutely breathtaking....
How cute is this bench with rubber boot feet.
Then of course, there was Sarah and Theo Richardson, brother and sister design dynamos. They did a dining room, living room and bedroom. Sarah designed the rooms around the products that Theo (Rich, Brilliant and Willing) designed. First, the red dining room.
This room was inspired around the pendant lights that Theo designed.
I just love these lights and Sarah told us that there were little sweet original engravings
on the top of each and every light.
And look how the lights are hung - from an old ladder - so cool!
Now here's an interesting use of pattern on one chair. And check out the table and how it's finished. How about the lovely zinc buffet - isn't it original. It actually came from an
antique store and is quite old.
I loved this stained glass divider used to replicate a window. Those cute hooks above are also made by Theo Richardson.
A cute little vignette on one side of the dining room.
Next, the blue living room.
Another little antique piece in the living room.
Sorry this one is a little hazy - trying to move fast due to the crowds....
And last but not least the yellow bedroom. How's that for a dramatic headboard. I think somebody was sleeping in there before the Gala started....
And another zinc piece - a cute little dresser with cabriole legs. So adorable and it's also an antique.
Here's a shot from the front.
I love these two little benches at the foot of the bed!
A cute little chaise lounge area with the lovely light that Theo designed. This picture doesn't really do it justice..but you can check it out on Sarah's website. And last but not least I had to get my photo taken with Sarah. Hope you enjoyed this little part of IDS 2011. I'll be blogging about some other gorgeous items later on this week!!
