Volver stars Penelope Cruz and was directed by Pedro Almodovar. This film was very well received at the Cannes Film Festival- and like most Almodovar films it doesn't disappoint. It would give away too much to describe the plot- but Cruz plays a woman who has been down on her luck and has been raising her teenage daughter virtually by herself since her husband is a total loser. The story also focuses on other female characters, including her sister. Like many Almodovar films it teeters between drama and comedy. It is highly recommended for anyone who likes his films. Cruz was also very good in the movie, and as the NY Times pointed out, this is her first role where she seems like a mature woman- capable of having a teenage daughter.
