The Doctors of Pop Book of the Month: Celebutantes

We rarely read. So a book better be good if we're gonna spend the time sifting through it. Luckily Celebutantes, by Amanda Goldberg and Ruthanna Khalighi Hopper, is a great read. Particularly for pop culture fans.
Goldberg and Khalighi Hopper use their experience working in Hollywood to provide an inside scoop of life in Tinseltown. Fiction and reality intertwine, giving the reader a glimpse of the not-so-desirable world that celebrities operate in. What makes the book so enticing and addictive is that many of the characters in it are clear references to notorious celebrities.
Take the following excerpt:
I spin around to find a certain Teenage Movie Queen, whose proclivity for hitting the hotspots sans panties has given her a second crown: Queen of the Noonie Moonie. She's placed her chipped Black Satin Chanel fingernails on my naked shoulder. At least she's no longer scary skeletal after than unfortunate diet Death Spiral. Though she's radioactive Day-Glo orange, another victim of the spray-on sickness that plagues celebrities during Awards season. "Great dress," she says with an aspartame smile. "Thanks," I say, feeling a glimmer of prettiness rush through me...."Couldn't they make it in your size?" The Teen Queen's flazes hair extensions flick me in the eye as she barrels toward one of the few people past the third grade that this dress would actually fit--her sidekick Nicole Richie."
Lindsay Lohan has never been more perfectly described! Celebutante is like an endless list of blind items. We highly recommend it for those of you who are pop culture fans. Wait. That means all of you. It's a quick read and lotsa fun!
