TURQUOISE, AQUA, BLUE-GREEN, TEAL….

It’s been awhile since I did a colour post – so without further ado here’s one on Turquoise aka aqua, teal, blue-green, aquamarine & ultramarine.
Turquoise is a mix of blue and green and therefore has the same calming effects as the colours blue and green used individually. It can and does often invoke a watery feeling.

It’s warm and welcoming in a century old home entry.

Used in it’s lighter shade as turquoise it has a soft, feminine feel to it  Used in it’s darker shade, Teal, it becomes a little more sophisticated and elegant as seen below.

Turquoise can have a retro feel of the 50’s and 60’s.  I clearly remember my first childhood home having a turquoise and white exterior.  Turquoise, right now is the colour of the moment and you can find so many things in this colour, including Christmas ornaments and decorations.

The turquoise glass Christmas ball on the left is from Wolf Art Glass on Etsy.   The second painted one is from Ornaments by Deb also on Etsy.
If you want to keep the soft, feminine qualities of pale aqua or turquoise mix it with lavender or pale pink.

Using a bright turquoise and fuchsia will create a clean, retro look.

Turquoise used with black and white brings a retro vibe, think of those tiled 1960’s bathrooms.

And turquoise paired with orange or yellow creates a fresh sporty feeling.

Turquoise is the color to use when you want to create a relaxing mood as it will inspire trust and calm. It’s a great colour to wear or surround yourself with it, if you have difficulty sleeping, dreaming, or meditating. So consequently it is often used in a bedroom or a spa inspired bathroom.  If you don’t think you can commit to turquoise walls you can also try turquoise accessories such as a blanket, painted dresser or floor.
