TURQUOISE, AQUA, BLUE-GREEN, TEAL….

It’s been awhile since I did a colour post – so without further ado here’s one on Turquoise aka aqua, teal, blue-green, aquamarine & ultramarine.
Turquoise is a mix of blue and green and therefore has the same calming effects as the colours blue and green used individually. It can and does often invoke a watery feeling.

It’s warm and welcoming in a century old home entry.

Used in it’s lighter shade as turquoise it has a soft, feminine feel to it  Used in it’s darker shade, Teal, it becomes a little more sophisticated and elegant as seen below.

Turquoise can have a retro feel of the 50’s and 60’s.  I clearly remember my first childhood home having a turquoise and white exterior.  Turquoise, right now is the colour of the moment and you can find so many things in this colour, including Christmas ornaments and decorations.

If you want to keep the soft, feminine qualities of pale aqua or turquoise mix it with lavender or pale pink.

Using a bright turquoise and fuchsia will create a clean, retro look.

Turquoise used with black and white brings a retro vibe, think of those tiled 1960’s bathrooms.

And turquoise paired with orange or yellow creates a fresh sporty feeling.

Turquoise is the color to use when you want to create a relaxing mood as it will inspire trust and calm. It’s a great colour to wear or surround yourself with it, if you have difficulty sleeping, dreaming, or meditating. So consequently it is often used in a bedroom or a spa inspired bathroom.  If you don’t think you can commit to turquoise walls you can also try turquoise accessories such as a blanket, painted dresser or floor.

So that’s turquoise – aqua – blue-green – aquamarine – teal and ultramarine.  What’s your favourite shade of turquoise?  How have you used it in your home?

Turquoise heaven

Turquoise is one of my favourite colours probably because it embodies the seaside. It is so fresh and feminine! Here's some pretty pictures of the prettiest colour.

A beautiful tropical wallpaper and the floral centerpieces add to that tropical flavour.

Another beautiful turquoise wallpaper but feels more retro inspired.

A classical and vintage looking stairway.

I believe this is from the same interior as above - classic and timeless. Love the boat sculpture hanging from the ceiling...

A fresh country feeling but with hints of moderness. What a whimsical polka dot wallpaper!

Gorgeous vintage inspired bathroom - love the turqoise clawfoot tub, cute floral curtains and chandelier. Looks like a lovely space to take a leisurely soak!

Laundry Room Envy

Now I have a decent laundry room with new front loading machines but it is also a mud room from my garage so there is limited space. These laundry rooms give me major laundry room envy and inspires me to add a pop of colour to mine.

Country styling with bead board cupboards and back-splash, cute basket storage.....

Beautiful window valance and stacked washer and dryer in this one...

Modern cabinetry with cool graphics and bright turquoise walls...

Clean and simple with cute artwork...

Laundry contemporary laundry room

White, slick and contemporary design.....
This one is my favourite. Traditional design with pops of turquoise and an adorable school house light fixture.

Beautiful dark wood floors and pale blue cabinetry......

Laundry Room modern laundry room
Sleek modern laundry room with stainless steel accents....

This one looks just like a kitchen
