seriosly no Vancouver thread yet ?
So what will it be?
Apple store vs Best buy or Futureshop ?
I want to go to the Apple store in Pacific centre but am afraid that I won't stand a chance unless I started lining up in the wee hours of morning
I like the best buy line/ticket system (and I am guessing futureshop will have something similar as well? They did for boxing day)
so where are you guys going?

Dell is putting a little pressure on Gateway with this. A detente with Apple is just a temporary measure.
Not having the premier MP3 player is a disadvantage in Gateway's goal of selling consumer products via its retail stores. In a way, Apple and Dell are "colluding" to accelerate Gateway's downfall.
Gateway made a mistake with the iMac comparison ad.

Samsung's new "Super" AMOLED are actually somewhat visible outside. They are an improvement in that respect. Besides that, it will have inferior color reproduction and (IMO) over-saturated colors.
oh, so you've seen both screens already?

Just out of curiosity, do you have a target price range? Brand new Radeon 9200s are about $130.
I recommend a Radedon 7000 or 9200 for their good performance. They're pretty cheap on the used market.

OS X won't let you boot legacy software without a superdrive. I've tried at least 100 times. It can't be done. Boot Camp will not allow you to install from a USB drive. If you have the ISO of windows 7 just install it in parallels and enjoy.

Throw some games in the hat please guys!
I'm looking for a game to play under windows on my machine (see sig)
What are you all playing at the moment?
STALKER is coming out next week in the UK. I'm hoping it's going to be a Fallout-esque FPS. It's set in an area called the Zone, near Chernobyl. It's a bit of a mish mash of Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky and the Chernobyl incident. CVG has plenty of interviews and reviews with the developers.

Guess I should update my 1.0 version.
You should. There're only security updates and minor bug-fixes in 1.0.1 and 1.0.2, but security updates are a good thing. ;) Also, even if you have searchplugins, the upgrade is very painless. And if you don't, then it's just drag and drop! :)

FW400 doesn't carry any power so no it's not going to work.
They do. That's why we had to send some DV decks back to Sony, as they were often kaputt due to the wrong order of connecting them to the computer.
FireWire 400 (IEEE 1394-1995)
The original release of IEEE 1394-1995[11] specified what is now known as FireWire 400. It can transfer data between devices at 100, 200, or 400 Mbit/s half-duplex data rates (the actual transfer rates are 98.304, 196.608, and 393.216 Mbit/s, i.e., 12.288, 24.576 and 49.152 megabytes per second respectively).[4] These different transfer modes are commonly referred to as S100, S200, and S400.
Cable length is limited to 4.5 metres (14.8 ft), although up to 16 cables can be daisy chained using active repeaters; external hubs, or internal hubs are often present in FireWire equipment. The S400 standard limits any configuration's maximum cable length to 72 metres (236 ft). The 6-circuit connector is commonly found on desktop computers, and can supply the connected device with power.
The 6-circuit powered connector, now referred to as an alpha connector, adds power output to support external devices. Typically a device can pull about 7 to 8 watts from the port; however, the voltage varies significantly from different devices.[12] Voltage is specified as unregulated and should nominally be about 25 volts (range 24 to 30). Apple's implementation on laptops is typically related to battery power and can be as low as 9 V.

If you're willing to spend that much then why not just get a baseline 2011 MBP?
The Intel i series of the new MBPs will be far better than that C2D found in that macbook. See here (http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_pro?mco=MTM3NjU5MzU)
Hahaha thats weird, you quoted me right before I changed that post to include what you're talking about.

go to staples or best buy buy a screen cleaning spray and some microfibers spray abiout 3-4 sprays on a small area of the cloth and wipe down the comp then dry it. Also keep a can of compressed air on hand to spray out the keyboard and little nooks.

What frequency range will the xion usb turntable sample at? 44khz, try and go for 96khz to get a better de-clicking and de-popping result (though there's some debate about this). Vinyl has better results when recording at 24bit also.
The file format is kind of mute, but I always record mine in WAV to keep a master copy, then convert later using DBPowerAmp tools (on windows).
Plus Wav is supported in iTunes so you can convert using their dubious converters within iTunes itself.
Edit: I also use Audacity as it enables you to do a lot more filters without damaging the original copy.

generally it's quite useful.
That's fair enough, but I honestly didn't find any significant utility in it all. Is there a benefit to having fonts activated and deactivated on the fly?
I'm not being snotty -- I'm genuinely curious!
Cheers
