SPRING FEVER.....

Spring fever has hit me hard this year.  I am wanting to change out most things in my house as well as repaint all the walls.  I am trying to corral this impulse by switching out my winter decor for my spring decor and moving things from one room to another.  That usually appeases my shopping devil for awhile... ;)

Here's my newly done spring-a-fied living room.

I have added in some more turquoise accents and some floral accents as well as a new faux plant in the corner.  I would have liked to have a real plant here but my fig tree has been here for three years and was slowly dying due to the lack of direct sunlight.  Therefore, it's been moved into the sunny sun room and I'm happy to report much happier there.

I still haven't completed my armoire transformation into a bar yet.  Too many other things have taken priority and it's slipped to the bottom.  Plus, I need the mister's help and he's been too busy with work.

Not too sure when it'll get done, once April hits, the focus shifts to the exterior and the cottage.  Lots to do in both those places....

LIVING ROOM MAKEOVER!!!

Sorry I have been so late in blogging about my living room makeover.  It has been rather busy around here.  So to recap this was the before.  (If you want to read about the entire process click on these links to read:
Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3 and Chapter 4.)

First, I purchased a patterned area rug that had blue, gray, and beige in it to complete my colour palette.

I added a glass coffee table for some sparkle.

I had my chairs reupholstered in a neutral fabric.

I found a cute little side table, whose metal matches the finish on the upholstery tacks above.

I also purchased a statement chandelier for that WOW factor.  The finish on the chandelier matches the coffee table finish.

I ordered some woven blinds to add some texture and the colour matches the flooring.

The final touches are some throw pillows and accessories.

AND HERE'S THE AFTER! 

I still need to do some work on the other side of the room as well as changing out the armoire to become a bar area.  So stay tuned for the rest of the makeover.

LIVING ROOM UPDATE – CHAPTER 4

Time for another update to my living room makeover.  I was so happy to receive my newly recovered wing chairs, just before Christmas.  Which was wonderful, as I was hosting Christmas Eve dinner for 16 and needed all the chairs I could get. Here’s the original chairs -
And the fabric that I decided upon was from Robert Allen – you can’t quite see it on this photo but it has subtle gray threads through it.

And the whole reason, why I decided on reupholstering instead of slip covering, the upholstery tacks that I fell in love with.

And here’s the fabulous “newly” done chairs.

Since I went with such a patterned area rug (see previous post) , I kept the chairs in a solid pattern.  And because I like to change things up quite often, I choose a neutral colour, so this way I’m not tied into a colour that I grow tired off.

LIVING ROOM – CHAPTER 3

Thought it was time to post an update on my living room makeover.  So far I’ve picked up an area rug.

I love the colours – blue, gray and white.  It felt contemporary and traditional, all at the same time.  It ties in with my navy sofa and adds some gray into the room.

I also bought a new glass coffee table with gorgeous crossed legs.  I just love that it makes the room seem larger and that you can see the beautiful rug underneath.

And I’ve ordered a chandelier and it’s a beauty.  It is quite large at 30” x 34” and has a large crystal hanging from the bottom.  Problem with this is that it has to be hung from the 17’ ceiling – hubby thinks he can do it, but where do we get a ladder that long?

I’ve also ordered a small campaign table. Sorry I don’t have an exact photo of it, but it looks something like this.  It has a dark metal finish and I think it will be a great contrast to the light linen upholstery fabric I will be using for the wing chairs.

I forgot to include my round mirror in the list of items that were already in the room in my last post here. I bought it a couple of years ago and I’ll definitely be keeping it.  The antiqued silver finish should match nicely to the chandelier I’ve ordered.

So that’s where the living room is now.  I hope to be purchasing some fabric soon for the wing chairs.  I was going to slipcover them, but I’ve fallen in love with the idea of using upholstery tacks along the edge of the chairs. Unfortunately, slip covers and upholstery tacks don’t work together, so I’ve decided to upholster them.  It doesn’t look like I will receive the fabric in time to get them done by Christmas so I’m hoping for soon after. 

I am also in the process of picking out some woven wood roman shades and I’ll be lining the current drapes so that they hang better.  That’s it for now.  Stay tuned………..

LIVING ROOM REDO - CHAPTER 2

For Chapter 2 on my odyssey to redo my living room, I thought it would be best to show you what I have now and then you can see what I replace and repurpose.

So here’s the list of items that I currently have.

Camel back sofa

Luckily I bought it in navy moiré striped fabric that I still love and I’m just debating whether I want to remove the skirt and add wood legs or just leave it as is.  Decisions, decisions…..

Wing chairs

I have two of these beauties and I did love the Robert Allen fabric at one time and it is still in great shape but it’s quite dated now. So, I’ve decided to slipcover them instead of reupholstering and you never know it may come back in style.

I haven’t decided exactly what fabric I will be using so I’ll be on the hunt shortly.  I am thinking something linen but we’ll see what I find.

 

 

 

 

 

Armoire

This was purchased about 10 years ago to put our TV in.  I still like it and it adds much needed height to my living room.

Anyways, I'm thinking of making it into a bar.  Put some fancy wine glasses & decanters on the top mirrored shelf and add shelves to the interior for wine storage,etc….

 

 

Antique Tilt-Table

 

I purchased this table about 5 years ago from an antique store. It is from the 1800’s but alas it doesn’t still tilt as someone screwed the mechanism shut but I love the pedestal base.  It is definitely staying!!

Coffee table

This coffee table will be leaving.  It is cherry wood but it is not the right shape and I need something with some sparkle.  

 

 

 

Side table

 

 

This cute little Duncan Phyfe table is from Gibbard and was a treasure found in bad shape in our cottage.  My Dad and I fixed it up and it’s been in the living room ever since.  I may find a new home for it.

 

 

 

Floor lamp

This is one of my more recent purchases from Home Sense and I think I will be keeping it.

 

Draperies

I purchased these ready made and I do like them but I think I will be purchasing lining to line them.  I also have been wanting to add some woven blinds to the windows for a layering effect.

 

 

 

 

 

Table lamp

A table lamp that is another recent purchase that I think I will be keeping.

 

So in case you are keeping a tally I need fabric to recover the wing chairs, a new coffee table, lining for draperies and woven blinds.  I also need an area rug and a large chandelier (when I moved in I had a light box installed in the ceiling of the living room which has remained unused).  I’ll need some items to repurpose the armoire into a bar and probably some accessories, though I’m sure I have some I can kidnap from other parts of the house.
