Oscar Surprises

Blood Diamond actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Djimon Housou have surprised people with their respective nominations for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. Though they were both excellent in the film- many were suprised because they were not getting much buzz - and many assumed that DiCaprio would be nominated for The Departed. Congrats to both!

Many are also surprised to see that Brad Pitt was not nominated this year for Babel. Others are also surprised to see that Bill Condon was not nominated for Best Director for Dreamgirls and Clint Eastwood was nominated -again. What is it with the academy's love affair with him? People were also surprised to see that Volver was not nominated for Best foreign film. We can't believe it!

This is one nomination too many for Meryl Streep. She is a great actress but she did not deserve a nomination for this role. Thank God perennial favorite, Jack Nicholson was not nominated again- for playing himself over and over again. We love them both- but enough is enough.

We had been hearing from the LA Times Buzzmeter that his chances of getting nominated were good recently- but we are still pleasantly surprised to see Ryan Gosling nominated for Half Nelson. We love him and we think he's a great actor.
