SKETCHES

I was doing a little clean up of my office and found some old sketches from school that I thought some of you may find interesting.

These are from a class I took called “Perspective Sketching” and we had to do a room perspective and then colour and shade it to look as real as possible.  Here’s how we did it….

So first you start with a grid.

Scan_Pic0007

You then place the corner of the room in the corner of the grid and work out from it.

Scan_Pic0008

Once you have all the furnishings in the room, you then add the finishing details such as the texture in the fireplace, flooring, lighting and fabrics.

Scan_Pic0009

Finally you photocopy the original black & white sketch and then colour and shade the photocopy.

Here’s the finished work:

 Scan_Pic0004

And another example of a bedroom sketch – done the same way.

Scan_Pic0006

These two sketches took hours and hours of work, but it is kind of fun for me to look back at these and see that they were pretty good.  At the time I could only see the mistakes – funny how time gives you a different perspective.

I believe that every space can be comfortable, warm, elegant and beautiful. I would love to help you achieve your beautiful space!

IMTA Alum Ashley Greene in Eclipse!

This is it!!! Tonight, marks the world premiere of the new feature film in the Twilight Saga, Eclipse! IMTA Alum Ashley Greene reprises her role as Alice in the blockbuster film! But there's more to Ashley than the Twilight franchise.

"The 'Twilight' saga has kind of given us this instant fame and no one's really seen what we can do yet, apart from playing Alice or whichever character we're playing in the saga.... 'Twilight"s certainly given us an advantage in that we're able to walk into rooms that we couldn't before. There's a lot of things coming up on the horizon."

Ashley has a role in Butter. the upcoming ensemble film from the Weinstein Company that also stars Jennifer Garner, Hugh Jackman, Alicia Silverstone and Rob Corddry. Ashley's first starring role comes in a thriller called The Apparition, about a couple is haunted by a supernatural presence after a college experiment. Ashley also stars in Skateland, a coming-of-age drama set in the '80s that debuted at Sundance earlier this year.

Ashley is an alum of the International Modeling and Talent Association Convention. She competed at IMTA in 2004, when she said,"I'm so thankful I got the opportunity to be here at IMTA because there are so many people and so many opportunities. I want to come back to IMTA even if do I make something big of it. I definitely want to come back, it was a lot of fun!"

Check out Ashley Greene's program book photo. Her photo appeared in the book that is given to all of the agents, managers and casting directors who are in attendance searching for new faces to represent.

Here's the inside scoop about Ashley Greene (IMTA 2004) from Patrick Baca, CSA:

"Casting Director and IMTA Scout Patrick Baca, CSA first auditioned Ashley Greene when the actress was sixteen and a student at an IMTA Member modeling and talent training school in Jacksonville, Florida. Two years later, Ashley moved to Pasadena and at Patrick's encouragement, she began college and acting training. In 2006, Patrick gave Ashley one of her big breaks in the business when he and colleague Jean Scoccimarro cast Ashley in her first recurring role on Television. "Desire" was a night time serial drama which aired daily on MyNetworkTV for thirteen weeks. Ashley played "Renata" and appeared in seven episodes.Patrick also cast former IMTA contestant, Chuti Tiu in a recurring role on the same series. Chuti appeared in 36 episodes in the role of Detective Rachel Lin..."

A LITTLE VERMONT LOVE!

A few weeks ago my husband and I spent a couple of leisurely days in Vermont.   It was the first visit for both of us and now we anxiously await our next visit.
IMG_0919_1text
We stayed at one of the most romantic inns in Vermont – The Rabbit Hill Inn.  The inn is located in Lower Waterford and the dining room has received the AAA four diamond award.  And it is very well deserved.
A fall view of Rabbit Hill Inn, a Vermont bed and breakfast
The Inn’s history is an interesting tale that goes back to 1795 when Mr. Samuel Hodby who realized that the area of Lower Waterford was the mid-way point on a major trade route for weary travelers between the north of Montreal, Canada and busy harbours of Portland, Maine and Boston, Massachusetts.  So he built and opened the Samuel Hodby Tavern.
Noticing all the activity in the area, Jonathan Cummings built a home and workshop next to the Inn in 1825.  Then, in the early 1830’s Mr. Fred Cross and Mr. Hale bought the three buildings and joined them as one large inn.
The current innkeepers, Leslie and Brian, make you feel so comfortable and go the extra mile to ensure that every guest feels special.  We arrived in the late afternoon just in time for afternoon tea which included fresh tea, lemonade and pastries.  YUMMM!!!
We stayed in the luxurious Canopy Room with a gas fireplace and a semi-private second floor porch to enjoy.  Here’s a couple of pictures of our room.

Isn’t it quaint?
Breakfast is included – a fantastic spread of yogurt, fresh fruit, cereal, homemade muffins, coffee cake and the homemade zucchini bread TO DIE FOR!  And that’s not it – a choice of two hot specials as well – didn’t need lunch after those breakfasts.
Then you can check out the cute little cupboard where they have directions to all the local restaurants and activities as well as driving trails depending on how you want to spend the day.
Supper was wonderful and lived up to it’s four diamond rating.  After dinner, you can relax quietly on one of the porches or join some of the other guests in the lounge where they have the challenging beautiful Stave puzzles (there’s no image to follow on the box just a name – to make it more interesting), backgammon, other games or just enjoy a drink at the bar.
IMG_0913_1
This is the Stave puzzle I completed.  Every puzzle is one of a kind and individually cut from wood.  I won’t tell you the name though – just in case you go this picture won’t give it away.
We picked one of the driving trails and found some very interesting places.  Dog Mountain was one that we won’t soon forget.  The late Stephen Huneck was a sculptor, artist and author who devoted his life and his land to animals, especially dogs.  There is Dog Chapel which is filled with memorials to the pets that we’ve loved and lost and a store where you can pick up originals, prints, souvenirs and one of a kind sculptures that Stephen crafted.

We also visited with the Bird Man who crafts the cutest little bird sculptures out of green spruce wood.  Here’s one of his creations.
IMG_0947
Each bird is crafted from one piece of wood and the tail feathers are spread out like a deck of cards.
We also made it to the Cabot Creamery – such tasty cheese and to Ben and Jerry’s, of course.  Along with visits to a couple of antiques stores, a jewellery store, a candy store, a maple store and a cool salvage store -  we were completely shopped out.   Well I could have lasted longer but dear hubby was definitely DONE…..
We had a great visit and here’s some of Vermont’s beautiful scenery to leave you with.

THEY CALL ME MELLOW YELLOW!

Love that song!!

“Colour is but a sensation and has no existence outside the nervous system of living beings.” Nicholas Ogden Rood

yellowrubberdviaflickr

Okay, I have been very delinquent about my colour posts.

So I am back at it with

YELLOW!!!

Most people have strong feelings about Yellow – they either love it or hate it!  I used to hate it but there is one thing about studying colour and design – you really do learn to love all the colours – as you find out all about them and how they all have their place in the rainbow!

righteyeviaflickr

Colour psychology tells us that extroverts like warm colours and introverts like cool colours.  Yellow then is a colour for extroverts.  If you like yellow you’ll find it cheerful, radiant and expansive.  If you hate yellow it’ll make you nervous, anxious and irritable.

Physically yellow can annoy and agitate us but it also sharpens our memory (think yellow post it notes) and stimulates us intellectually.  It can make you cautious – as in yellow street lights or very talkative.

IMG_0636

Yellow doesn’t seem to stay put – it seems to float into the air like sunshine.  It falls between the extremes of red and violet – it is closest to visual light and is perceived as sunlight’s natural colour.  It appears to illuminate and so it advances towards us.

Now for some interiors.  Yellow can be glamorous and classy as shown in the following photos.

Isn’t this a breathtaking bathroom?  It’s so glamorous!

Here’s a transitional living room with a pale yellow wall that works beautifully with the stone wall and the navy couch.

A modern, feminine space where the turquoise background wall and even the exterior blue light compliments the hits of yellow.

What a handsome vignette!  Showcasing how beautiful yellow and gray can be.

Or it can look fun, playful

and flirty as in the

following rooms.

This room has yellow and it’s compliment purple to showcase both the colours. It is fun and young at heart.

A fun children’s room highlighting again how well gray and yellow works together.  Cute monkey!

It can even have a welcoming and classic country feel…see these below.

 COME ON IN!!

A warm entryway that has classic tones with the marble tile floor and the urn on the console – not to mention that beautiful wooden door and transom window feature.  Painting it yellow makes it less formal and more casual.  Did you notice the cute painted scene on the console table?

Navy and yellow is such a timeless combo and works its magic in this room.

The dining room in the same home – can’t you just smell the apple pie?

viaHousebeautiful2

And last but not least striped yellow & white fabric used in a modern way on the headboard.

Hope you enjoyed this trip

through the colour yellow!

IMTA's Ashley Greene on the Cover of Women's Health!

IMTA's Ashley Greene graces the cover of this month's Women's Health Magazine. In the issue, she discusses her thoughts on health and eating:"I'm a big believer in feeding your body what it needs. Deny yourself something and you're going to end up shoving your face full of it." She has recently started a new campaign as ambassador for Avon's younger brand called Mark! As brand ambassador for Mark, she will appear in the Mark magalog, website, as well as in print and online advertising.

Ashley competed at IMTA in 2004, when she said,"I'm so thankful I got the opportunity to be here at IMTA because there are so many people and so many opportunities. I want to come back to IMTA even if do I make something big of it. I definitely want to come back, it was a lot of fun!"

Ashley's big break was when she got the role as Alice Cullen in the blockbuster hit movies Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon! Ashley's next movie The Twilight Saga:Eclipse is opening June 30th! She is also currently in production on many projects including: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Warrior, The Apparition, and the film Butter.

Taylor Momsen: Grunge Queenette

So, admittedly, I have never watched an episode of Gossip Girl in my life, but someone who's style has caught my eye recently is Taylor Momsen.  Yes I'm talking about that ratty tall blonde 16 year old with the smudgy eye makeup.

So what actually brought her to my full attention was her band The Pretty Reckless and their new single 'Make Me Wanna Die'.  Firstly, she has such a mature sounding rock voice, and she writes all of her songs and plays guitar, having already been a part of the Warped Tour and signed to Interscope Records, and of course there is the TV show she's on, all at the age of 16.

Her band's sound, like her look, channels a little bit of Courtney Love (but with a better voice) grunge princess style... I thought I'd share some of my fave looks.

Taylor on her look:

"I'm actually designing all of my costumes. It's a rock band, so there's not costume changes but there's definitely a look."
