Fees and Commissions

Just about everyone I know in the design field struggles with how to charge clients. We want to be fair but we also want to be paid for all the time, expertise, creative thinking and problem solving we do to ensure a job goes well from start to finish. It is hard to get across to clients how much time it actually takes to come up with a proposal, to source the items required, hire trades, check on the trades and to actually see the project through to the end.

Kelly of Design Ties blog gave me this great link to Vincent Wolfe's blog where there has been an open discussion of commission and fees for designers and architects. It is great to hear everyone's opinion and how they work. You may want to check it out.

Thanks again Kelly and Vincente for opening up the discussion. All you designers, decorators, creative people out there what do you think? Post your comment here.
